-------- Original Message -------- Subject: !!!!!BREAKING NEWS - GRASS ROOT SUPPORTERS SAY THEY ARE NOT DONE!!!!! Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2012 15:07:25 -0600 From: Jennifer WarHawk To: michaelclifton@votingandaction.org Team, I know it might be too little too late for us now, but if you know anyone in upcoming states, please send this to them and spread the word! This is sent by Laurice Cox, one of our grassroots organizers in Missouri: LONG BUT EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU READ THIS: The political reality since Rick Santorum has suspended his campaign is this: Many of his supporters, delegates, campaign volunteers, and paid staff are reacting differently. Some have become disinterested, some are pledging allegiance to Romney and the party for the sake of "unity", some are pledging allegiance to Paul, and others remain supportive of Santorum's wishes by sending as many of his delegates to Tampa to support conservative planks in the platform and to have influence on the choice of vice-president. What each person decides to do from this moment forward will be dictated by his or her own conscience. I recommend the following: This is still the primary season. This is the time to vote your convictions. "But," you may say, "Rick has left the race!" Yes. But he has not endorsed anyone nor thrown his delegates to another candidate. And there's a reason for that. Those who have committed to being his delegates still have a job to do. The commitment to be a Santorum delegate is not only a commitment to Rick Santorum, but to a set of values that Rick represents which is the reason we chose to support him in the first place--things like overturning Obama-Care, maintaining our military around the world, family issues such as abortion and euthanasia--the list goes on. Some of these issues no other candidate even comes close to addressing in the way Rick does, or in the way we believe. So as a delegate it's these issues you represent also. Some of you may feel that because Rick has suspended his campaign that you no longer owe him personally any further obligation. What if you knew what Rick himself personally wants you to do? Would that make a difference? On a conference call yesterday with Rick, specifically in reference to the delegates, Rick said that he is keeping the delegates to help win fights at the convention for platform issues. He said for us to still fight for delegate spots and to be there in Tampa. (I did not participate in this call so am hesitant to use quotation marks, but I was told this is what he said by a participant--a reliable source--of the conference call.) I reiterate: he has not endorsed anyone nor thrown his delegates to another candidate. HE IS KEEPING THEM TO WIN FIGHTS--FIGHTS FOR US ON ISSUES THAT MATTER TO US--AT THE CONVENTION, AND HE WANTS US TO CONTINUE FIGHTING FOR DELEGATE SPOTS! You do owe Rick Santorum your allegiance. You committed to being a delegate FOR HIM and for the convictions we all hold. We coordinators vetted you to be on the Santorum slate and trusted that you would hold true. You owe your fellow Santorum supporters in your county to follow through on your commitment--you are representing them also. Please, follow through! All around us today we see inconsistency, fickleness, people "tossed about with every wind of doctrine". Please remain steadfast! What an incredible example you will be to your children, grandchildren and other loved ones--and we who trusted you will be encouraged that you stood firm. Furthermore, since Rick Santorum has officially suspended his campaign, if ANYONE purports to speak on his behalf, requests your mailing lists or any other Santorum materials you may have in your possession, or does anything else that is contrary to his "wishes" (as stated above, i.e. that he has not endorsed anyone nor thrown his delegates to another candidate--he is "keeping them"!) they are actually expressing their own opinions or desires. Rick no longer has an active campaign and is no longer giving directives through surrogates. PLEASE BEWARE! It sickens me to have to address this, but, sadly, it is necessary. More than one mole has been discovered in this election. And they continue to surface. Read this paragraph again--very carefully! I myself do not speak on behalf of Rick or the campaign. There is no campaign structure left. Again, beware of anyone who tells you otherwise. I accepted the position of one of the Coordinators for the 7th Congressional District by the national campaign people, but it had never been formally announced. Strategy meetings have been ongoing behind the scenes ever since the county caucuses on March 17 within the 7th and with the national campaign people. Announcing who the actual coordinators were was delayed until such time that strategy was finalized. Others may have assumed they held that position, but, of course, this is all moot since Rick suspended his campaign and the campaign hierarchy dissolved. There is no 7th Congressional District Coordinator with the campaign. However, I have been assigned the task of being the 7th Congressional District Coordinator by the National Grassroots for Rick Santorum organization, which is a newly formed group who do remain steadfast in following through with Rick's wishes and upholding the convictions we share with him. I will be in contact with all of the delegates very soon. If you are a Santorum delegate in the 7th Congressional District of Missouri, please contact me. On one of the last conference calls in which I participated a Santorum national campaign person said the strategy is to MAXIMIZE DELEGATES FOR SANTORUM AND MINIMIZE DELEGATES FOR ROMNEY. And that remains the strategy even today, confirmed by same person, and implied by Rick himself on the conference call from yesterday mentioned earlier. I personally choose to take one step at a time. My short term goals are to work for success at my district caucus and at the state convention to MAXIMIZE DELEGATES FOR SANTORUM AND MINIMIZE DELEGATES FOR ROMNEY--delegates to go to Tampa to the National Convention floor. I ask that you join me in this noble endeavor. If you agree with us please contact me immediately because there is little time left until the Congressional and State Conventions. Again: 1-Remain steadfast to your commitment to being a Santorum delegate. 2-In making all decisions in reference to this primary season, the goal is to maximize delegates for Santorum and minimize delegates for Romney. 3-BEWARE of ANYONE who purports to speak for Rick, request your lists or anything else from you, or does anything contrary to Rick's desire to maintain his delegates. I give my word that everything I have written above is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge.
